There are a few locksmith companies taking advantage of unsuspecting customers. Their tatics are low keyed, but very costly to you the customer.

Here is an examle of the way they will quote a job and leave you thinking that you will be getting a super bargain.
They will quote for a job MINIMAL "SERVICE CALL OF SAY $10 OR $15. I F YOU DO NOT ASK ANY MORE QUESTIONS ABOUT ANY OTHER COSTS ASSOCIATED, THEY WILL DISPACH A VEHICLE TO SERVE YOU.
Here comes the surprise!
They will quote you the total charge is $100 and they will explaining that only the initial service call is $10 or $15, but the actual cost of the service to open a car or your house is the balance.

Here is another version of a similar situation!
They will quote for a job to open your house a MINIMAL "SERVICE CALL OF SAY $10 OR $15. If you ask, are there other charges? They will say to open is extra $39, but in a very low key approach they will say it depends on the DIFFICULTY OF THE JOB. Here is the BIG HIDDEN cost for the job and the outrageous profit for the company. You are not the one who decides on the difficulty of the job, they do! Now the price has been changed and you are locked in spending twice or 3 times the price quoted.

These are only a few examples of their tactics. Beware of such open ended quotes!

Also, beware that many of these companies are located in some remote State using independent operators to do their services locally.
Many such operators are not certified locksmiths or legally operating.
When you try to get satisfaction based on their guarantees, it will be very dificult for you to collect. Hence, making Guarantees is easy when you know you will not be arround to collect.
